Churches and nonprofits comparing KleerCard vs Devote are usually asking one question: do we keep pre-funding a cash-secured card, or do we move to a weekly charge line that does not need a transfer before every swipe?

I co-founded KleerCard and serve as treasurer at my church. Pricing and product facts below come from each vendor's published pages as of September 2026. Both change. Confirm them before you apply.

Key Takeaways

  • Devote issues cash-secured Visa charge cards. You move money from the operating account into Devote, then spend that balance. There is no revolving credit line and no personal guarantee.
  • KleerCard Standard and Pro spend against a weekly credit line paid in full. KleerCard Free spends money already sitting in KleerCard's Wallet deposit account, the same way Devote cards spend cash already moved into Devote.
  • Devote platform fees start at $179 per month (Impact), then $359 (Catalyst) and $719 (Visionary). Annual billing saves 10 percent. Unlimited users and cards sit on every plan.
  • Restricted-fund and grant tracking on Devote is a Catalyst-and-up feature, not an Impact feature.
  • KleerCard pricing is Free, Standard $29 per month up to 15 users, or Pro $49 per month up to 30 users. Paid plans do not require you to load cash before cards can spend.

Cash-secured funding vs a weekly charge line

On Devote, the card works up to the cash already sitting in the Devote account. You move money from the operating bank into Devote, split it into buckets, and issue cards against those buckets. Devote's card FAQ lists "you don't have enough funds" as a decline reason. Someone on staff has to keep that balance ahead of hospitality, a youth trip, or a grant draw.

On KleerCard Standard and Pro, the organization has a weekly credit line paid in full from the linked bank. You can still cap a hospitality card at $250, leave a card at $0 until a funding request is approved, lock a merchant category, or set a time window. Those limits live on the card. They do not require a prepaid KleerCard balance first.

KleerCard Free spends only what is already in the Wallet deposit account. If that deposit is short, the swipe does not go through. Devote's card works the same way: cash in first, then the swipe. Standard and Pro are the plans that spend against the weekly line.

A board that will not approve any credit line does not have to stay on Devote. KleerCard Free keeps spending against a Wallet deposit at $0 a month.

Pricing for a church or nonprofit with 10 to 20 cards

Devote Impact is $179 per month with unlimited cards. Catalyst is $359. Visionary is $719. Annual billing cuts those list prices by 10 percent. Confirm the live numbers on Devote pricing.

KleerCard Standard is $29 per month for up to 15 users and unlimited cards. Pro is $49 for up to 30. Free is $0 if the organization will pre-deposit. Confirm the live numbers on KleerCard pricing.

My church runs about 21 cards on a small paid staff. On Devote Impact that is $2,148 a year before the annual discount. On KleerCard Standard that it $348 per year. On KleerCard Pro it is $588 a year. For a small office, that is $1,560-$1,800 cheaper per year.

Price the Devote plan you would actually use. Restricted-fund and grant tracking is listed on Catalyst and Visionary, not on Impact. If those tools are the reason you are looking at Devote, budget $359 a month, not $179.

Bar chart of annual platform cost for ~21 cards: KleerCard Free $0, Standard $348, Pro $588 vs Devote Impact $2,148, noting Standard is about $1,800 cheaper per year.

Accounting and fund tagging

Devote tags spend to funds, programs, and grants from the swipe. Devote publishes QuickBooks Online as the main accounting sync, with additional tools on Catalyst and Visionary. Devote does not publish native connections to Aplos, Realm, Shelby, ACS, ParishSOFT, or Blackbaud.

KleerCard connects to Aplos, ACS Technologies, Realm, Shelby, ParishSOFT, Blackbaud, PowerChurch, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, and NetSuite. If the books already live in one of those church or school ledgers, a Devote export still has to land in that ledger.

KleerCard and Devote can both freeze a card, cap a merchant category, and set a time window. What matters at month-end is whether the charge shows up already coded in the ledger the office closes in.

When Devote is the better fit

Stay on Devote when you want the high-yield savings account, the donations tool, and a dedicated account executive in the same login as the cards.

Devote also fits if the books already live in QuickBooks Online.

Do not pick Devote only because the board wants cards to spend what has already been deposited. KleerCard Free does that with a Wallet deposit and no monthly platform fee.

Skip Devote when $179 a month is more than the office can put toward a card platform, or when charges need to land directly in Aplos, Realm, Shelby, ACS, or ParishSOFT.

Checklist of when to choose Devote: high-yield savings plus donations and AE in one login, books in QuickBooks Online; and a note that wanting deposited-cash spending alone is not enough (KleerCard Free does that at $0).

When KleerCard is the better fit

Pick KleerCard Standard or Pro when volunteers and ministry leads need their own cards without moving money into a card account before the week starts, and when month-end has to land in Realm, Shelby, ParishSOFT, ACS, Aplos, or Blackbaud.

Pick KleerCard Free when the board will only approve spending against a deposit. Devote's card also spends a deposited balance. KleerCard Free does it at $0 a month. Devote Impact starts at $179.

KleerCard also fits when you want 10 to 20 cards to cost $29 or $49 a month instead of $179.

Skip KleerCard when you want Devote's savings account and donations tool in the same place as the cards. Wanting cards to spend only deposited money is not enough, by itself, to stay on Devote.

Checklist of when to choose KleerCard: cards without pre-funding, month-end in Realm/Shelby/ParishSOFT/ACS/Aplos/Blackbaud, 10–20 cards at $29 or $49 vs $179, or deposit-only spending via Free at $0/mo.

Frequently asked questions

How is KleerCard different from the Devote Card?

KleerCard Standard and Pro are a weekly Visa charge line, so cards work without pre-funding an account first. The Devote Card spends cash you already moved into Devote. KleerCard Free also requires a deposit before cards spend, so a board that only wants cards to spend deposited money can use Free instead of paying Devote $179 a month.

Is the Devote Card a credit card?

No. Devote's card page calls it a cash-secured Visa charge card connected to the Devote account. You spend organizational cash already moved onto that account.

Does Devote or KleerCard require a personal guarantee?

KleerCard waives the personal guarantee for a registered 501(c)(3). See eligibility. Devote publishes no credit check and no personal guarantee on the card page. Confirm current underwriting on each application.

How much does Devote cost compared with KleerCard?

Devote is $179 a month on Impact, $359 on Catalyst, and $719 on Visionary. KleerCard is $0 on Free, $29 on Standard (up to 15 users), and $49 on Pro (up to 30). Price Catalyst if you need Devote's restricted-fund tools.

Can both issue unlimited cards?

Yes. Every published Devote plan includes unlimited physical and virtual cards. KleerCard Standard and Pro include unlimited cards inside each plan's user limit. KleerCard Free also issues cards against the Wallet deposit.
